Shadow Puppets

For the last 2 weeks the children at Art Club made Shadow Puppets!

For the first week they got into groups and decided on what characters to make and how they could interact in a short 2 minute play.

Then they got down to work! Designing their characters and cutting them out of black card. Then they attached all the joints together with brass fasteners and attached kebab sticks to the back to animate them.

In the second week the children made slides using coloured lighting filters and paint. Then each group came into the film room to perform each of their plays.

It was so much fun! Here are the results in the finished films!

Christmas Pop Up Cards

The Kids made some great Pop up Cards last week at Art Club!

This was the example I showed them, of a Sleigh, Tree and Presents:

The children got busy, choosing different coloured card and images for their designs.

Here are just a few of the finished ones! So great to see such a range of unique styles.

Geometric Tile Designs

This week the children got into groups and made some beautiful tile designs.

They looked at some images for inspiration and chose a theme for their design.
 

The children got down to it, making sure each member of the group was making a few tiles each to contribute to the final design.

They also had to make sure that each tile in their design somehow linked to the one it was placed next to.

Here are a few of the final results! I think you'll agree that they are brilliant!

CityScapes

Last session the Children made pop up cardboard CityScapes. 
It was a super simple project and really easy once they understood how it worked.

First of all they were given a cityscape view and they had to observe it closely. The children looked for objects in the foreground, middle ground and background. They made drawings of these elements on seperate sheets of the same size pieces of card.

Then they cut out each element and stuck it to a 'tab', which made the element stand up on its own - like a pop up!

They carried on with this process and arranged each element behind the next until the full view, with the foreground, middle ground and background, were complete.

The finished CityScapes look fabulous!

Inventive Houses

This week the children were given an architecture project in collage form. They looked at various examples of unusual house based on organic shapes. The above houses were based on the Shell and the Mushroom respectively - stunning!

So I gave the children different objects to choose from; a crystal, some rocks, driftwood, mushrooms, brocolli, a pineapple and flowers. They were to design the exterior of a house based on the object they chose.

And here we have a series of creative dwellings based on a bunch of flowers:

A really great project to get the children to look at things differently. See you next week! x

Paper Cone Wreaths

This week the children made Paper Cone Wreaths. It was so much fun!

Firstly, the children cut out sidcs from cardboard and covered them with wrapping paper. Then they stuck a loop of ribbon on the back.

Then they got their 2 sheets of A3 paper (one wrapping, one plain) and folded them so that they each would have 8 squares.

They cut them out and then rolled them up to form cones and stuck with tape.

Next they were given half a poly ball and some gem stickers to decorate it with.

Then all that was left to do was assemble all the pieces onto the disc with tape!

And all was complete and ready to hang!
