Wire Self Portraits

This Week the children made their own Wire Sculpture Self Portaits.

They were given the Works of Alexander Caulder to look at and I gave them instructions on how to make the main frame.

After they got the main structure, they could then use buttons, tissue paper and thinner wire to make the features of the face, using mirrors as reference.

Here are my two favourites from the group as they worked the hardest to get them complete:

Cityscape group drawing

The other really great drawing project we did to start off the term was a group drawing project.

Here, the children had to draw with ONE CONTINUOUS LINE - or in other words, not let the pencil leave the paper for a specific time period!

Here were the results, the two photos are actually each half of the same drawing, approx 1m in length by 40cm wide -

Welcome back!

Its been a while since I last posted, mainly because I've been focusing on getting the Facebook page up and running - please come by, 'like' and interact! As a bit of a change for this year, I'll only be posting my favourite images from the classes here - so you can look forward to that!

So! We got off to a flying start with a couple of Drawing projects. The first one was where the children drew each other in different poses! I particularly LOVE this drawing made by a 6 year old, isnt it just wonderful!

I also managed to capture this moment when one of the children was pretending to be a singer - just brilliant dont you think?!

Make a Robot print!

Last week the children made Robot prints!

They were given a selection of different items to make prints from including:
sponges
combs
tubes
straws
doilies
string
rubber bands
selotape
polystyrene
scissors
fabric

Have a look at what some of them got up to!

Shadow Puppets

For the last 2 weeks the children at Art Club made Shadow Puppets!

For the first week they got into groups and decided on what characters to make and how they could interact in a short 2 minute play.

Then they got down to work! Designing their characters and cutting them out of black card. Then they attached all the joints together with brass fasteners and attached kebab sticks to the back to animate them.

In the second week the children made slides using coloured lighting filters and paint. Then each group came into the film room to perform each of their plays.

It was so much fun! Here are the results in the finished films!

Cardboard Castles

Last week the Children made Cardboard Castles!

Each child was given a sheet or two of cardboard, 5 or 6 cardboard rolls (huge thanks to my mum for saving them for us!), a roll of selotape, 5 or 6 paper cups, coloured card and paper, some string, a few wooden kebab sticks, and some oil pastels.

The children loved making their castles, each one had unique characteristics. Some had flags, some had ladders, some had canons, some had drawbridges and others had gardens!

3D Animal Masks

Last week the children made 3D Animal Masks.

The children had such a fun time, making all different kinds of animal faces!

The process was simple - using a cardboard base, build up the animals face using neswpaper and masking tape. Then paint them!

As usual, I didn't manage to get photos of everyone's masks, but here are some of the ones I did!

Life Size Self Portraits

Happy New Year!

To start the Spring term off I thought, what better than to do some life size self portrait drawings!

So the children got into pairs, I measured everyone out onto some huge sheets of paper and they got busy drawing around each other.

Then they got down to draw different elements of themselves. I gave them around 10 minutes on each body part.

First it was the faces....

Then the hands and toes....

Then the arms....

 And the legs...

...and finally the whole body!

Superb work everyone, well done!
